Overcoming the Fear of Joining the Game Late: Embracing My Achievements

Have you ever felt like you were too late to join the game and that your achievements were insignificant compared to others? It's a common feeling, but it's important to remember that every accomplishment, no matter how small, is worth celebrating.

For example, I recently completed my 80th workout on my Peloton bike, and I am incredibly proud of this achievement. However, I initially hesitated to share my success with others because I felt like I was joining the hype too late. Everyone else I knew who was using the bike had already completed hundreds, if not thousands, of workouts.

This feeling of being late to the game can also extend to other areas of our lives, such as our professional pursuits. It's easy to become discouraged when we see others who have already achieved success in our field, and we may wonder if our own contributions are too little, too late.

People have been playing baseball for years without worrying about being the first to play it. Instead, they focus on whether they have the skills to play and if the game is enjoyable. I have adopted this perspective in evaluating my pursuits. Rather than aiming to be the first, I consider if I am good at it and if the activity brings me joy. This helps me focus on what truly matters and find fulfillment in the process. It's important to remember that it's never too late to start something new or to pursue our goals. What matters most is that we are making an effort and participating in the game. We may not be the first to join, but that doesn't mean we can't make a meaningful contribution.

Instead of focusing on being the first or the best, we should focus on whether we enjoy the activity and whether we are good at it. For me, coaching individuals with ADHD is something I am passionate about and good at, even though there are already many ADHD coaches out there. My contribution is unique and valuable, and I believe it can make a difference.

So, don't let the fear of joining the game late hold you back. Embrace your achievements, no matter how small they may seem, and remember that you have something unique to offer. Play the game on your terms and enjoy the journey.

You can still play even if you join the game late!
